2010 President's Letter
Welcome to the 2010 season! We would like to thank all the members of the Shenipsit Lake Association (SLA) for a great 2009 season. Your support was greatly appreciated, and every last dollar aids in the continuation of the program so we can continue to enjoy this wonderful natural resource. Please do your best to spread the word about the SLA as we are always trying to expand membership. Help us spread the joy to others who may not have even heard of the Lake!
In addition to helping fund the SLA, this year every member receives a 10% discount at Crystal Lake Outfitters, 292 Sandy Beach Road in Ellington, CT - simply present your membership card for the discount. If you go there often enough, the SLA membership pays for itself!
We would also like to thank the Connecticut Water Company (CWC), owner of the lake and surrounding property, for their continued guidance and support of the SLA. Without their support, we would not have the opportunity to enjoy great fishing, hiking and all the natural beauty Shenipsit Lake.has to offer. As always, it is important as ever that we follow all of the rules and guidelines posted around the Lake to make sure we do not hinder CSC's ability to provide water services to local residents. If you have any questions, please refer to the websites or contact me directly.
In the 2009 season, we once again saw an increase in the number of individuals who utilized the SLA. We saw strong participation in the fishing derbies, and we are hoping to attract even more kids to this year's derbies (see the "Events" section for a schedule) in order to encourage them to pursue and enjoy wholesome recreational activities from childhood onward. Each kids derby will be advertised in the paper prior to each date, but if you know any kids who would be interested, please spread the word!
As a reminder, the SLA maintains this website. We encourage all members to visit this site for up-to-date news and events. Also, please feel free to submit pictures of your experiences at The Snip to share with others.
Saturday, April 3rd, is our community clean-up day. All SLA members, friends, and family are welcome to join the effort. We meet at the boat house at 9:00AM and then walk the perimeter of the Lake in order to clean up any trash that may have accumulated over the winter. The duration is approximately 2 hours; coffee and doughnuts will be provided to all participants.
Wednesday, April 14th, is boat check-in day, starting at 6:00AM. Boats will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. We will need three days to accommodate the quarantine period prior to opening day.
Please note: it is important that you arrive early to secure a spot. Boats will not be accepted until 6:00AM. Like last year, please form a single file line on the Lake side of the road so your vehicle is facing east, toward Tolland.
Is is very important that we respect the residents who live around the Lake, so we will need your cooperation during the drop-off process. Due to complaints in the past, any vehicle that is left unattended overnight will not be permitted a slip.
Lastly, do not remove your boat from your vehicle until you are assisted by an SLA officer. The line simply moves up and each boat is unloaded and stored.
